International Journal of Mechanics accepts original, theoretical, experimental, and applied methods of research related to mechanical sciences and their engineering applications, and welcomes submissions in proven and replicable discoveries, reviews and commentaries across the field. Research of an inter-or multidisciplinary nature is encouraged.
As well as original research papers, the journal welcomes brief research reports, corrections, data reports, editorials, hypothesis & theory, methods, mini reviews, opinions, perspectives, reviews, systematic reviews, technology and codes.
Manuscripts that focus solely on theoretical aspects of digital technology, frequency analysis, or methodology without a relevance to mechanical engineering are not suitable for publication in this journal. The journal’s scope does not include purely theoretical or abstract studies that lack relevance to practical applications in the field of mechanical engineering.

Research must be certified by peers before entering a stream of knowledge that may eventually reach the public and shape society.
We use the single anonymized peer review model:
- The reviewers’ identities are not made visible to the author
- The authors’ identities are visible to the reviewer
- Reviewer and the author identities are visible to the decision-making editor.
Reviewers interact with the handling editor and the authors. Editor and reviewer names and affiliations are published on Journal Website.
IJM applies the most rigorous and unbiased reviews, established in the high standards of our review system. Only the top certified research, evaluated objectively through quantitative online article level metrics, is disseminated to increasingly wider communities as it gradually climbs the tiers of our tiering system from specialized expert readership towards public understanding.
Publishing process – step by step
1. Preparation
Format the manuscript to be submitted according to our author guidelines.
2. Registration
Register yourself with Frontiers and log in to start submission.
3. Submission
Submit your manuscript through the Frontiers submission pages, where you are required to select the specialty which best covers your research area as well as one associate editor.
4. Review
Once the community reviewers have submitted their independent review reports, you are notified that the interactive review forum is active. According to our review guidelines you are now able to interact with the reviewers in the forum and also re-submit a new manuscript if necessary.
5. Acceptance or rejection
Upon finalization of the review, the editorial decision is taken and you immediately receive notification.
6. Publication fees
Congratulations, your article was accepted. You are now required to pay an article processing fee, if needed. Rejected articles are not charged any fees.
7. Article production
Your manuscript layout is adapted according to our style sheet. Proofs will be sent to you to be checked and corrected. At this step, you may be asked for higher quality figures if needed. In order to prevent a delay in the production process, please make sure that your images, figures and tables follow the author guidelines. For any questions, contact the production office.
8. Publication and indexing
After production, your article is published electronically in the specialty journal or section, in PDF format, and is also submitted to PubMed Central for archiving.
9. Dynamic impact evaluation
Your article’s impact is dynamically evaluated while readers browse the pages of IJM Journal platform and feed back to the authors.
